“From Godzilla (1954) to Godzilla (2019): Fear, Secrecy and Security in the Nuclear Age”

Dr. Prasad Venugopal is an Associate Professor of Physics and affiliate faculty in the African American Studies at the University of Detroit Mercy.  He is a Board member of the Michigan chapter of Peace Action, the largest grassroots peace organization in the U.S. He served two terms as an elected member of the National Steering Committee of United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ), which was formed to oppose the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in the early 2000s.

He is also active in other local peace, labor and anti-racism organizations, including the Ferndale Inclusion Network, the Detroit Area Peace with Justice Network, and Southeast Michigan Jobs with Justice.  He is the President of his local union, the University of Detroit Mercy Professors’ union.

Prasad has written numerous articles and spoken widely on US foreign policy issues, including Iraq, Afghanistan, India-Pakistan and global Nuclear Abolition, as well on other topics such as imperialism and globalization.
